white girl problems

For my graduation, I will be wearing a cap, gown, honor cords, tshirt, jeans, and moosehide/beaver fur moccasins with Ojibwe beadwork. And when/if I am questioned about my footwear, I will respond that I am a rather pale, mostly white descendent of Ojibwe people, and that by graduating I am fulfilling the dreams of four generations of my family, including my beloved grandmother who loved her tribes' beadwork, and to not bring some reminder of my loved ones to such an important day would simply be disrespectful. What I will not say is that I would give both my pale little legs to have my grandmother and aunties there in person.
